Anonymous hacker group releases its own operating system
New Delhi: Anonymous, the hacker group that is believed to be behind many recent high-profile hacking attacks is now moving into a new frontier - the desktop operating system (OS).
The group has announced the release of its own desktop OS called Anonymous-OS. According to the Anonymous-OS Tumblr blog, the purpose of the software is only to educate and to check security of web pages. Anonymous urges its users not to use it to attack any website.
"Created for educational purposes, to checking the security of web pages. Please don't use any tool to destroy any web page :) If you attack to any web page, might end up in jail because is a crime in most countries! The user has total responsibility for any illegal act," the hacker group says on the Tumblr blog.
The Anonymous-OS is built upon latest version of the open source Linux-based Ubuntu OS (version 11.10) and uses the MATE desktop environment.
Anonymous-OS comes preinstalled with a number of hacking tools including, ParolaPass Password Generator, Find Host IP, Anonymous HOIC, Ddosim, Pyloris, Slowloris, TorsHammer, Sqlmap, Havij, Sql Poison, Admin Finder, John the Ripper, Hash Identifier, Tor, XChat IRC, Pidgin, Vidalia, Polipo, JonDo, i2p, Wireshark and Zenmap.
The OS is available as a 1.5 GB direct download from SourceForge.net and also downloadable via BitTorrent.
At the time of posting this, the Anonymous-OS has been downloaded over 16,000 times from SourceForge.net and the torrent file has been downloaded over 1000 times.
